Mission Statement

The Port Credit Salmon and Trout Association is committed to the protection, enhancement and sustainable management of Lake Ontario’s salmon and trout fisheries. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we strive to promote responsible angling practices, support habitat restoration, and contribute to the long-term health of our fish populations. Our mission is to preserve Port Credit’s rich fishing heritage while fostering a balanced and thriving aquatic ecosystem for future generations.

About the Port Credit Salmon and Trout Association

The Port Credit Salmon and Trout Association (PCSTA) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the health, sustainability, and enhancement of Lake Ontario’s salmon and trout fisheries. Established in 2010, PCSTA unites anglers, conservationists, and community members who share a passion for preserving local fish populations and their habitats. Through hands-on conservation projects, educational outreach, and community engagement, we work to ensure that Lake Ontario remains a thriving fishery for generations to come.

Port Credit has long been recognized as the Salmon Capital of Ontario, with a rich history rooted in its once-thriving commercial fishing industry. Today, the region is home to a world-class recreational fishery, attracting anglers from across the province and beyond. PCSTA plays an active role in fostering sustainable fishing practices and advocating for responsible fisheries management.

Our Key Initiatives and Events

  • The PEN Project – One of PCSTA’s cornerstone initiatives, this program helps improve Chinook salmon survival rates by rearing juvenile fish in floating net pens before releasing them into the wild. This process allows the salmon to imprint on local waters, increasing their chances of returning to spawn in the Credit River.
  • PEN Derbies – PCSTA organizes community fishing derbies that celebrate the region’s angling culture while promoting responsible fishing practices and conservation awareness. These events bring together seasoned anglers and newcomers alike, fostering a strong fishing community.
  • Tree Planting and Habitat Restoration – We actively participate in reforestation efforts and rehabilitation projects, helping to improve water quality and provide critical habitat for fish and wildlife.
  • Tackle Swaps and Educational Events – Encouraging sustainability within the angling community, PCSTA hosts tackle swaps where anglers can donate, trade, or purchase used gear, reducing waste and making fishing more accessible.
  • Community Advocacy and Partnerships – We collaborate with local conservation authorities, and other non-profits to advocate for the health of Lake Ontario’s fisheries. Through education and outreach, we empower anglers and community members to become stewards of their local waters.

At PCSTA, we believe that conservation and recreational fishing go hand in hand. By engaging the community through meaningful projects and events, we strive to protect Port Credit’s fishing legacy while ensuring a balanced and thriving aquatic ecosystem. Whether you’re an experienced angler, a passionate conservationist, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of our local waters, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
